Dr. Peters is a psychologist who has extensive experience in the detailed behavioral and neurophysiological characterization of neurogenetic disorders with overlapping intellectual disability, including the creation of new methods of assessment for these conditions.
She has been the PI of federally funded clinical research projects and clinical trials for a variety of these conditions and has been using wearable sensors to track sleep and activity in Down Syndrome, Rett Syndrome, and Rett-Related disorders.
She is the co-director of the Behavioral Phenotyping Core of the Vanderbilt Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center, and the use of novel methods of assessment is a major focus of the core.
She works closely with physician-scientists, basic scientists, and engineers to refine measures so that they are clinically valid and can detect clinically meaningful differences and are most appropriate given the nature of the specific syndrome being studied.
