Susan Sparks, MD, PhD

Susan Sparks, MD, PhD is the Global Medical Head, Rare Neurometabolic on the Global Medical Affairs team at Sanofi. She joined Sanofi in 2014 as the US Medical Director for Pompe disease, before moving to the Global team in 2020. She has lead diverse, international teams focused on medical strategy, evidence generation, scientific exchange, medical education and training, data analysis, and insights generation.
With Midwest roots, Susan developed a love for genetics in high school, cultivated her passion in research while attending Carnegie Mellon as an undergraduate, and received her MD and PhD from Chicago Medical School. She is board certified in Pediatrics, Clinical Genetics, and Clinical Biochemical Genetics. For over 10 years prior to joining industry, Susan was an academic physician. She led clinical and translational research programs in genetic and rare neuromuscular disorders and has extensive clinical expertise in the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of patients with rare diseases, including Pompe disease and other lysosomal disorders.
